The Blessed Man by Dr. J.T. Parish
The Blessed Man
If your life is as stable as a tree, and you are fruitful and prosperous even during seasons when others are falling into recession, then you are indeed a blessed person.
This is the description the Psalmist gave when describing the blessed man. There are three things he does not do. He does not walk in the council or advice of the ungodly. He does not stand in the pathway of sinners. He does not sit in the seat of the scornful.
People who do those negative things are not blessed. They are characterized as ungodly. Instead of having the stability of a tree, they are compared to the chaff which the wind drives away. How unstable, fruitless, and lacking in prosperity can you be? Worst of all sinners will not be able to stand in the Day of Judgment. What a contrast between the blessed and the ungodly.
The two great passions of the blessed man relates to his love for the word of God. First: he delights in God’s Word. Second: He meditates in God’s word day and night. This explains why he doesn’t get his advice from the ungodly. He gets his advice from the word of God as he meditates.
The word teaches him to be set apart from the ungodly and so he doesn’t participate in his ungodly deeds. The blessed man doesn’t sit in the seat of the scornful. Instead he is seated in heavenly places in Christ. (Eph. 2:6) Delight in and meditate in God’s word and your faith will grow you will be a blessed person – stable, fruitful, and prosperous!
