Village Market & Café Grand Opening October 11th

By Pat Thomann

The new Village Market and Café opened their doors on Friday September 26, 2014, ushering in a new concept in grocery shopping. The new store concept is one of only a handful of stores using this method of operation.

Before the store opened a survey of a wide socioeconomic segment of the population was conducted. People in the community and visitors were asked what they would like to see in the new store, resulting in an extremely wide variety of items stocked.

Since Grand Rivers has such a diverse segment of the population this was a very smart move on the part of owners Bill & Bette Burruss Gary who also own the Green Turtle Bay Resort and Marina. Gary realized that they not only have their regular local customers to consider but they also have a large tourist population especially during the summer months.

With the addition of the Café and an inside and outside eating area, the market can now cater to those looking for a quick pastry & coffee, hand dipped ice cream or Hunt Brothers pizza and chicken wings. The deli has potato salad, cole slaw, BLT pasta, chicken salad as well as lunch meats and cheeses sliced to order. More items may be added as they get a feel for what the customer wants.

The meat department is now managed by Chris Ellis who formerly worked for 10 years for Jeff & Emily's IGA. Ellis says, "I am excited to be back in the new store. We stock Certified Angus Beef and if there is anything you want that we do not carry we will do our best to get it for you." Ellis is a Grand Rivers resident and takes pride in his work.

If you walk through the market you will find that there is not much they do not stock. In addition to the normal grocery items they also stock a wide variety of dog foods, baby items, picnic supplies, household items, auto supplies and basic tools.

Village Market will hold their Open House on October 11, 2014 during the Annual Hunters Moon Festival. They invite everyone to come in and check out the remodeled, updated market and check out their specials.
