Grey Van Morgan, age 70, of Paducah, Ky., died Monday, July 8, 2013, at her home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Eastside Cemetery in Martin, Tenn. Miss Morgan is survived by her brother, Harold Van (Cellie) Morgan of Florence, Ala.; and her sister, Keith Morgan Geekie of Shawnee, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents who were longtime residents of Paducah, Ky., Harold Van Morgan Sr. and Jean Robinson Morgan. Mr. Morgan Sr. was a career land planner for TVA and Mrs. Morgan was a reporter for The Paducah Sun. Murphy Funeral Home in Martin, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.
Marguritte E. (Herzog) Hilke was born on December 11, 1913, in Paducah, KY to George Herzog and Clara (Schoening) Herzog. She died at Renown Medical Center on November 1, 2012 after a brief illness. Her family was her constant companions during her final days and was with her when she died. Her mother and father preceded her in death as well as her nine brothers and sisters. She married Bill Hilke on December 31, 1942 in San Jose, CA shortly before he deployed to the Pacific during World War II. They had two children William Frederick and Carol Leigh. She was also preceded in death by her husband Bill and daughter Carol. She is survived by her son Bill (Linda) and their three children Jennifer, Aaron and Alicia. She is also survived by Carol’s three children, David, Gail and Jason. There are nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In her life, family was important. She raised her own children, Carol’s children, and helped raise her great grandchildren. She had an absolute and incredible faith in God and Jesus Christ which helped to sustain her, not only in good times but also in hard times. She will now have the peace now that she so richly deserves. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 11 am on Saturday, July 20, 2013. Burial was at Beyer Family Cemetery. Iduma Oakley Redick, 83, of Cadiz died Monday, July 15, 2013, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville. She retired from Johnson Control. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. She was survived by two daughters, Laura Thomas and Beverly Alexander, both of Cadiz; one son, James Randall Redick of Cadiz; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Vance Oakley, Gary Oakley, and Mike Oakley, all of Cadiz, and two sisters, Bobbie Perry of Cadiz and Lawana Perez of Florida. She was preceded in death by her father, Aubrey Oakley; her mother, Docia Oakley; her husband, James “Dick” Conrad Redick, and one sister. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Goodwin Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Bunch officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery in Trigg County. Gary LaVerdi, 51, of Benton, passed away at 7:35 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at his home. He retired as first mate from the towboat industry and he was a veteran of the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife, Amye (Parks) LaVerdi of Benton; two brothers, Edward LaVerdi and Randy Laverdi, both of Benton; his nieces and nephews, Amanda Fox of Murray, Sean McGuire of Paris, Tenn., Shanae Averitt of Fort Campbell, Lindsay Walker of Calvert City, Gracie Steffen of Calvert City, Megan LaVerdi, Adam LaVerdi, Hannah LaVerdi, Nicole Vinson, Jacob Vinson, and Ashlea Vinson, all of Benton; and his great-niece, Madison Fox of Murray. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph G. LaVerdi and Bessie (Reczka) LaVerdi. Private graveside services will be in the Benton Cemetery. Euell G. “Sonny” Howerton, 71, of Cadiz died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Princeton Health and Rehabilitation. He retired from Ford Motor Company, served in the U.S. Marines, and was a member of Ponderosa Baptist Church. He is survived by two brothers, John Howerton of Greenup and Michael Howerton of Crestwood; six nieces, and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Euell B. Janice “Jan” Minard, 75, of Benton died Monday, July 15, 2013, at Baptist Health Paducah. She sold Avon and was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Benton. She is survived by three sons, Robert “Bob” Gile of Benton, Raymond Gile of Louisville, and Steven Gile of Benton; four daughters, Carol Kelly of Las Vegas, and Martha “Marti” Howard, Salena Gile, and Pauline Shelburn, all of Benton; one sister, Grace Marie Edwards of Symsonia; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. Minard, and one sister. Her parents were Fred Leu and Martha (Joy-Ashby) Leu. Vernon Childers, 78, of Ledbetter passed away at 9:15 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Lourdes hospital. Mr. Childers was a native of Graves County, Ky., and was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church. He worked for James Marine. He is survived by his wife, Betty Balentine Childers; two daughters, Bebbie Beckman of Illinois and Sherri Pittman (Dale) of Reidland; four sons, Kerry Childers of Paducah, Raymond Fowler (Lisa), Michael Fowler (Renee), and Keith Fowler (Kim); one brother, Mervel Childers of Mayfield; and two sisters, Mary Coley of Paducah and Billi Leitchfield of Lone Oak; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Childers; two sisters; and his parents, Vernon Childers Sr. and Maggie Skillian Childers. Rollie “Lee” Boone, 57, of Gilbertsville died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church. He was retired from Laborers Local 1214 in Paducah. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Louise (Knight) Boone-Griggs and Harold W. Griggs of Gilbertsville; two brothers, Stan Griggs of Calvert City and Aubrey Griggs of Benton, and four sisters, Cathy Nichols of Gilbertsville, Patricia Ann Logan of Robards, and Tina Burns and Wendy Griggs, both of Benton. Donnie Jewell Timmons, 64, of Lovelaceville died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2013, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. He attended Lovelaceville United Methodist Church and was a retired chief engineer from Southern Towing Company.
He is survived by one son, Tyler Timmons of Mayfield; his stepfather and mother, Charles and Virgilene Stokes Stone of Kevil, and one grandson, Zack Timmons of Paducah. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Timmons; one son, Jason Timmons, and two daughters, Carey Lynn Timmons and Rebecca Timmons. Helen Marie Vaughan, 90, of Mayfield died at 12:38 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Heritage Manor Healthcare. She was a homemaker and a member of Northside Church of Christ. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon M. Vaughan of Wingo; two sons, Larry J. Vaughan of Phenix City, Ala., and Anthony D. Vaughan of Benton; 11 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. “Bill” Vaughan; one daughter, Karen Klapp; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and two sisters. Her parents were Rube and Edith Runkles Ward. Joe Pat Kitterman, 79, of Cadiz died Friday, July 12, 2013, at his home. He was retired from Adolph Coors Company, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a Vietnam veteran. Most recently, he worked part time for Barkley Lake Water and was a member of Emmanuel Bible Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Loyd Kitterman; two daughters, Cathy Campbell and Carol Perry; and one son, Rick Kitterman. His parents were Lawerence H. and Floye Kitterman.
