Martha ‘Tootie’ Turner, 66, of Paducah, passed away at 11:05 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. Turner was a member of Heartland Worship Center and a housewife. Tootie is survived by her husband of 38 yrs, Dennis L. Turner; one son, Shane Turner and wife Amanda of Paducah; four grandchildren, Clay Turner, Cade Turner, Chris Sanderson and Lauren Sanderson; three sisters, Alice Brown of Paducah, Dorothy Cathey of Paducah and Shirley Orr of Melber; six brothers, James Powell of Paducah, Jack Powell of Melber, Larry Powell of Paducah, Billy Powell of Paducah, Terry Powell of Kevil and John Powell of Paducah; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Sanderson. Her parents were, Lawrence and Mary Lou Hawes Powell. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Johnny Sams officiating. Burial will follow in Harris Cemetery. Trulena Smith, 70, of Symsonia died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Lourdes hospital. She is survived by her husband, Horace D. Smith; four daughters, Pamela Hobbs of Mayfield, Sue Ann Fulton of Boaz, Linda K Shook of Mayfield and Janice Eicholtz of Reidland; two brothers, Glen Norman of Symsonia and Eugene Norman; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Thomas L. Coleman, 97, of Paducah died at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was an iron worker and welder. He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers on the Norris Dam (Manhattan Project) in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and on the construction of Kentucky Dam in western Kentucky. He retired from Pennwalt Chemical Company in Calvert City. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Sharpe Church of Christ.
He is survived by one son, James T. “Dugan” Coleman of Hayden, Ala.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivanel “Nel” (Jones) Coleman; one daughter; Valerie Turner, two brothers; and one sister. His parents were C.W. Coleman and Cammie (Randolph) Coleman. Private burial will be at Sharpe Church of Christ Cemetery in Sharpe. Collier Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph “Donnie” Shoulta, 66, of Paducah died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 3:50 a.m. at Lourdes hospital. Donnie was a member of St. John Catholic Church and a member of the last graduating class of St. John High School. He was retired from Lourdes hospital where he worked in the maintenance department. Donnie was an U.S. Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam crisis. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and raising a vegetable garden. Survivors include his wife, Eula Bea Taylor Shoulta; four sons, Todd Shoulta and wife Tonya of Paducah, Tony Shoulta and wife Nikita of Brookport, Ill., Marc Shoulta and friend Kelly of Symsonia and Jason Shoulta and fianceĂŠ Michelle of Gage; two stepsons, Richard Duane Hobbs and wife Kim of Paducah and Randall A. Hobbs of Lone Oak; three sisters, Theresa Gaydos, Sister Louise Shoulta RSM and Susan Hayden; three brothers, John Shoulta and wife Joann of Shelbyville, Mike Shoulta and wife Esther of Paducah and David Shoulta and wife Eva of Dickson, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were parents, Florian Edward Shoulta & Deva Frances Durbin Shoulta; two sisters, Patsy Ralph and Judy Wilkerson; and three brothers, Frank Shoulta, Cletus Shoulta and Charlie Shoulta. Bill B. Massey, 88, of Paducah went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 15, 2013, to join his great-grandson, Frankie Roman, in heaven. He was retired from American Bridge Company in Gary, Ind., and was a member of Rosebower Baptist Church in Reidland. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruby Massey; two daughters, Barbara Gage and husband Gary of Paducah, and Debbie Krause and husband Tom of Valparaiso, Ind.; two granddaughters, Kelsey Gage, Maggie Krause; one grandson, Chad Roman; one great-grandson, Marty Roman; three sisters, Lois, Imogene, Phyllis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Grace Massey; one great-grandson, Frankie Roman; several brothers and sisters. Bessie Mae Noland Miller, 103, of Almo died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Springcreek Health Care in Murray. She was a teacher in Casey County and Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Almo. She worked as a substitute teacher at Douglass High School in Murray. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church and served many years as secretary of the Sunday school and church. She is survived by four sons, Edward R. Miller and Don R. Miller, both of Almo, Leon R. Miller of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Carl M. of Atlanta; two daughters, Ruth Gwendolyn Diggs of Jamaica, N.Y., and Ollie J. Smith of Atlanta; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thomas Eugene “Gene” Toon, 79, of Fancy Farm died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Lourdes hospital. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 1418. He delivered water to neighboring communities as well as Fancy Farm and U.S. mail, was a school bus driver for the Graves County school district, and was a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Delores Hobbs Toon; one sister, Carolyn Sullivan of Fancy Farm; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Kurt Thomas Toon; and two brothers. His parents were Augusta and Noble Toon. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Fancy Farm with the Rev. Mack Davis Hill, 83, of Mayfield died Monday, December 16, 2013, at Green Acres Health Center. He was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Mayfield. He was a retired employee of Merit Clothing Company. He is survived by a sister, Mary J. Hill Allen of Mayfield; two nephews, William Allen of Mayfield and Henry Allen of Lexington: and one niece, Suzie Wheeler of Mayfield. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
