Dorothy Halvorson, 82, of Paducah, KY passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, IL. She was born March 10, 1933, in Buyck, MN to Stanley and Rose Hoffman, the fifth of nine children. Dorothy was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Paducah, Kentucky. In October 1951, she married Lawrence "Sonny" Halvorson from Virginia, MN, who was in the Army stationed in Anchorage AK. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Paducah, KY, with Rev. Tom Buckman officiating. Carolyn Figge, age 75, of Paducah, passed away at 1:00 pm on May 28, 2015 at Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Paducah. Mrs. Figge was an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and one time president of United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club and worked at Choate's Antiques for several years. A memorial service will be held at Broadway United Methodist Church Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Joe Beal officiating. Bernard "Ben" Blonder, 81 of Paducah died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Center at Lourdes Hospital. Ben was a native of New York and a retiree of U.S. Air Force where he served as Air Traffic Controller. Ben truly loved his family and especially keeping up with grandson's activities. He and his late wife, Sharon of 51 years loved traveling and lived in many distant countries during his military service time. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at the Pell Cemetery in Brookport, IL, with Rev. Bob Martin officiating. Darrin Lynn English, 48, of Paducah passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at South Baldwin Regional Medical in Foley, AL. Darrin worked in management for Fluor Federal Services, Inc, (formerly USEC for 25 years), he was a Member and Elder at Heartland Worship Center, he was Past-President of the Community Christian Academy School Board, he was a member of the Paducah Symphony Chorus, he was a member of the Down Syndrome Association of Western Kentucky, he formerly sang in the Voices of the Heartland and was a graduate of the University of Illinois. Services for Darrin will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Heartland Worship Center in Paducah with Dr. Nathan Joyce, Rev. Johnny Sams & Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Tom Andrus, age 73, of Paducah passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 11:10 p.m. at the McCracken Nursing and Rehab Center. Mr. Andrus was a native of Mayfield, Kentucky, and served in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from the Colonial Bakery. A Memorial Gathering will take place Sunday, June 7, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.at the Jackson House Chapel. Letha Dycus, 80 of Lone Oak, KY died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Baptist Health Paducah. Letha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a homemaker whose gift was "hospitality." Letha was a faithful member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church where she taught SundaySchool for many years. She was also a volunteer over 45 years at Western Baptist Hospital Auxiliary. Services were June 4, 2015 at the Lone Oak First Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Reid and Dr. Dan Summerlin officiating. Hobert M. Awbery, 90, of Symsonia, KY, passed away at 3:40 A.M. Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Baptist Health Paducah. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Clarks River Baptist Church and a construction supervisor. He was a 50 years member of the Carpenters Local #357. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Alton E. Carter, age 73, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the First Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Orlando McReynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Alton was born on October 29, 1941, at home in Baton Rouge, LA. Rev. Carter was the pastor of Faith Tabernacle Church for over 25 years. He and his wife sponsored an annual community outreach holiday dinner for 20 years. He established a food pantry in 1988 at Faith Tabernacle which is still in existence today and largely services families in the Massac County area. Alton also worked full time at Honeywell for 25 years. He was also appointed as a Commissioner of the Metropolis Police and Fire departments. Carl Kenneth Bormann was born March 6, 1936, to Carl & Helen Kuhlman Bormann in the family home on their farm in Massac County. He lived his entire life on that family farm. Kenneth was a well-known and respected farmer in Massac County, and farming and tractors were his hobby as well as his livelihood. He still actively farmed the land his family has owned since the 1850s. Kenneth planted the majority of the corn this spring and he has taught his grandchildren how to carry on his legacy. Kenneth served on various boards during his lifetime. He was an officer for the Soil & Water Conservation Board, and he served on the Franklin School Board and the Fort Massac Water District. He was also a member of the National Farmers Organization and the Paducah Area Antique Tractor and Engine Club. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he served on the cemetery board and the church board. Kenneth left this earth peacefully on May 31, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Zion United Church of Christ. Dr. James Nelson and Rev. Louis W. Brinker will officiate. Kenneth will be laid to rest on his family farm where he was born, lived and farmed his entire life. He will be on a beautiful hill where he can continue to watch over his family. Nell Thomas, 78, of Cadiz died Monday, June 1, 2015, at her home. She had been an EMT, retired as the service director of the Trigg County Ambulance Service after 27 years and was a member of Liberty Point Baptist Church in Cadiz. Carla Roach Sanders, 71, of Cadiz died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Trigg County Hospital in Cadiz. Ms. Sanders had owned the Americana Beauty Shop in Lexington, the Hansel and Gretel children's clothing shop in Cadiz, and SandOak boutique. She was a member of Cadiz Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz. The Rev. James Rodman Redd III will officiate. Burial will follow in East End Cemetery in Cadiz. Betty Lowry, 91, of Murray died Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Hickory Woods Retirement Center. She was a member of the Women's club, the Kentucky Federation of Women's club, and West Kentucky Mental Health. She worked on the Murray City Council, Murray Civic Music Association, and was the first woman appointed to serve on the Kentucky council for Higher Education. She was the first chairwoman of the United States March of Dimes from 1971-1974. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Stahler officiating. Entombment will follow in Murray Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Aubrey Belt, 81, of Marion died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Baptist Health Paducah. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Gilbert Funeral Home. George Fredrick Kitchen, 93, of the Pilot Oak community died Monday, June 1, 2015, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and a retired maintenance worker from Jackson Purchase Medical Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II as a combat medic and a member of the Air National Guard Reserves. His parents were Rufus William Kitchen and Rosa Mae (Cure) Kitchen.
