Paducah businessman and civic leader Gene Katterjohn died at his home early Fridaymorning, September 11, 2015. He was born in Paducah on May 4, 1921. He attended Paducah schools, graduated from Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, TN, and from Purdue University in 1943 with a degree in pharmacy and a ROTC commission. After attending Officer Candidate School, he was stationed at Ft. Sill, OK where he served as an instructor and a liaison pilot for field artillery. He later served as an Army aviator in Korea during the Korean War. He owned and operated Owen Cleaners for 40 years, 20 of those years with his father-in-law, Horace Owen. Funeral services were September 14, 2015 at United Church of Paducah, 4600 Buckner Lane, Paducah, KY 42001, with Pastor Ron Ruggles officiating. Burial at Maplelawn Park Cemetery. Mr. James Ralph Barnes, 59, of Marion, KY, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Deaconess Hospital-Gateway Campus in Evansville, IN. He was a United States Navy Veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. Robert Charles "RC" Ward, 91, of Lone Oak, KY died Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 6:15 p.m. at Southgate Nursing & Rehab. "RC" was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of U.S. Army and retired from Carbide/USEC as a supervisor in the Power Operation Department. Harold Dean "Sappy" Felts, 69, of Paducah, died Monday, September 14, 2015 at 2:15pm at home with the room filled with his loving family and friends at his side. He was a member of Heartland Worship Center and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam and was a member of American Legion and life member of VFW. He retired as a Chemical Operator and was trained and active as a firefighter at ISP Chemical, Inc. of Calvert City. He was a diehard UK basketball fan starting as early as the 1960's, as well as a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan. He attended and graduated from St. John High School in 1965. Funeral services were Thursday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah and will be officiated by his very good friend and brother in Christ, Dick Vasseur. Entombment with full military honors at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, with a special tribute played on the bagpipes by his brother-in-law, Don Nelson. James Arley Tune, 54, of Paducah died at 10 a.m. Sunday, September 13, 2015, at his home. Mr. Tune was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a construction worker, a masonry worker and a mechanic. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015, at Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield with the Rev. Stan Durett officiating. Ruby Osburn Whitaker, age 94, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015, at 2:55 p.m.in Paducah, KY. Mrs. Whitaker was the daughter of Henry Norman and Lucy Colley Osburn. She was born in Canton, KY, on November 3, 1920. She resided in Canton until her early teens when she moved with her family to Paducah. She married James Philip Whitaker Sr. in 1940 and had six children: James Philip Whitaker Jr., William Norman Whitaker, Betty Lou Whitaker Cashon, Kathryn Sue Whitaker, Janet Lynne Whitaker-Scott, and Christopher Daniel Whitaker. Visitation for Mrs. Whitaker were September 17, 2015, followed by a graveside service at her family cemetery in Canton, Ky. The family requests donations to McCracken County Animal Shelter, 455 County Park Road, Paducah, Ky 42001; or Poodle Rescue of Houston, 13302 Schroeder Road, Houston, TX 77070 in lieu of flowers. Delores 'Doty' Siress, age 78, of Paducah, KY, passed away at 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Baptist Health Paducah. Doty was the daughter of the late Leo L. Baker and Eva M. Blackwell Baker, a 1955 graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School and a 1957 graduate of Paducah Junior College, she then started to work for WPSD TV as a receptionist -bookkeeper until her retirement in 1998.
