My favorite TV show would have to be The Golden Girls. I have every season on DVD and I've seen every episode multiple times; I can quote most of the lines by heart. One of the things I love about the show is the tight knit friendships between Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia.
I've been thinking a lot about friendship this week. One of my friends that lives in eastern Kentucky came to visit me last week. She stayed a full seven days and I enjoyed every minute. Even though she doesn't live here anymore, and we only see each other twice a year, we picked right up where we left off and never missed a beat.
When I was in high school, I knew my class had a special bond, but I never realized it would remain intact over 20 years later. After Mama and Daddy passed away the first week of February, my classmates came together and donated money to buy me a piece of handmade jewelry. The necklace has both of my parents' thumbprints and the back is engraved with my mom's handwriting.
I am thankful for so many friendships that have formed in different stages of my life. I don't know where I'd be today without each and every one of them. Several friendship quotes keep going through my head, but I think I'll leave you with the theme song from...you guessed it...the Golden Girls!
"Thank you for being a friend. Travel down the road and back again. Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant. And if you threw a party, invited everyone you knew, you would see the biggest gift would be from me and the card attached would say, thank you for being a friend."
