"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!" I've heard that saying all of my life. I was always taught to make the most of a bad situation and to look for the positive, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Some people can find the good better than others.
Over the weekend, we catered an outdoor wedding on the edge of Kentucky Lake. At first, the weather forecast showed rain coming in around 10 p.m., but the arrival time of the storms gradually moved up to mid-afternoon. The wedding was scheduled for 5:30, right in the middle of a downpour. The ceremony was moved under a tent and the bride had to walk in with an umbrella. But did that change the atmosphere or attitudes of the bridal party and guests? Absolutely not! Everyone worked together to make the best out of a bad situation.
I can honestly say I may not have taken it as well as the bride if roles were reversed. I tend to be a perfectionist sometimes, and I like everything to go smoothly. Over the years, I feel like God continues to teach me not to overreact and to find the good in everything. If I just stop for a moment, and think things through instead of immediately reacting to a situation, He helps me understand.
No matter what happens in our lives, God has a plan. "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." - Romans 8:28.
