Jesus is the Reason for the Season

When I was very young, I started singing at the Kentucky Opry each week. Clay Campbell wrote a song for the Christmas show that was very catchy and the lyrics have stayed with me throughout the years. "Jesus is the reason for the season. I want you to remember this, I pray. Jesus is the reason for the season. That is why we celebrate this Christmas day."

So many times we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Christmas parties, presents, baking and decorating are necessary, but too often they take the focus away from the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus really is the reason for the season! Without Him, there would be no Christmas.

Earlier this week, I saw a Facebook post that reminded me of a wonderful Christmas tradition. The idea is to read one chapter of Luke each day beginning December 1st. There are 24 chapters, so on Christmas Eve, you will have finished the entire book and will have a beautiful picture of why Jesus came to earth and His purpose. I look forward to reading this each day; I challenge you to catch up and read along.

This year, take some time with your family to talk about the true meaning of Christmas. Make sure everyone knows why we celebrate. Open your Bible and read the Christmas story together. As you do your best to keep Christ in Christmas, ask the Lord to guide your words and actions. Start in December 2022 and never end your celebration of what Jesus did for you!
