Recently, associates from Lowe's in Mayfield, KY (Store #2490) and four other area stores, participated in the Lowe's Hometowns community impact initiative at Camp Rendezvous Veteran Housing and Work Center, a housing facility of Camp Graves located in Mayfield. They accomplished both large and small tasks.

Camp Rendezvous is dedicated to helping displaced veterans rebuild their lives. Through the #LowesHometowns Grant of $80,000, Lowe's associates from the region collaborated to turn the garage and a side room into a "Therapeutic Work Center".

The volunteers completed various projects to make the space where veteran residents can use their existing skills, or learn new ones, to create handcrafted pieces turning art, woodworking and gardening into healing. Inside, they assembled furniture, organized tools, built workbenches and set up workshop spaces. They painted fences and railings, giving the property a refreshed appearance. Outside, crews worked on landscaping, cleaning, and making repairs to create a welcoming environment.

Camp Rendezvous aims to provide veterans in need with resources, stability and supportive services to help them rebuild their lives. The improvements made by Lowe's volunteers helped to turn the idea of an in-house Therapeutic Work Center into a reality to promote healing and community connections.

For the local community, this project signifies more than just construction work; it represents an investment in people. It empowers veterans to regain their independence, fosters neighborly support, and strengthens local bonds.

Those interested in volunteering at Camp Rendezvous can reach out through their website or social media pages. Opportunities include assisting with construction and maintenance, supporting events, mentoring, leading skills classes and workshops. Every hour of service contributes to advancing their mission.

The day began with a tribute to veterans from the Patriot Guard Riders, the American Legion Post 26, and the CVMA. Attendees included Camp Graves Board of Directors, Representative Kim Holloway, Mayor Kathy O'Nan, Commissioner Todd Hayden, Graves County Jailer Kelli Elliott, and many other supporters.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the caring individuals and businesses of Graves County, including the Lowe's team and the four other Lowe's stores in the region, for making this event possible. Store Manager Derek, the pro desk crew, Amanda in Fulfillment, and James from Paducah Lowe's worked diligently to plan and organize this day of volunteering.

Stay tuned for more updates; they plan to begin housing veterans in mid September. Residents will have access to the Therapeutic Work Center's art and crafts room, mini greenhouse, and woodshop.

With the support of partners like Lowe's and the commitment of volunteers, Camp Rendezvous demonstrates that building hope is just as important as building walls.
