FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) - The Franklin County Coroner's office on Wednesday released the name of the victim who died in the shooting at Kentucky State University on Tuesday afternoon that killed one student and left another in critical condition.

Coroner Will Harrod has positively identified the victim from Tuesday's shooting incident outside Whitney M. Young Hall as 19-year-old Indianapolis resident and KSU student, De'Jon Darrell Fox, Jr.

Fox was a student at Victory College Prep High School in Indianapolis and played basketball there for at least one year, according to MaxPreps. He was a junior on the 2022-23 team, making him a sophomore at KSU this year.

Jacob Lee Bard has been charged with murder and first-degree assault. He is lodged in the Frankfort Regional Detention Center on no bond.

Frankfort Police have said they responded to a report of "an active aggressor," and when they arrived on the scene about four minutes later, KSU Police officers already had the suspect, Jacob Lee Bard, 48, of Evansville, Ind., in custody. Bard is currently being held without bond at Franklin County Regional Jail on charges of murder and first-degree assault, according to jail records. He is expected to be arraigned on Thursday at Franklin District Court.

According to Bard's arrest citation, a copy of which was obtained by WHAS-TV in Louisville, Bard was in a physical altercation on campus and shot the students during the incident. KSU confirmed the other student, whose name has not been released by authorities, remains in critical but stable condition and has been transferred to the University of Kentucky Hospital.

In a statement, Harrod noted, "Fox was pronounced deceased at Frankfort Regional Medical Center at 4:33 p.m. Tuesday. From a post-mortem examination at the hospital, it appears Mr. Fox succumbed to the injuries sustained during the shooting."

Harrod added, "An autopsy was performed on Wednesday morning, with the final results being available in 14 to 16 weeks. This is an ongoing investigation by the Frankfort City Police Department and the Franklin County Coroner's Office. There are no further details at this time."

In a Facebook post, Gov. Andy Beshear said, "The shooting that took place at Kentucky State University appears to be an isolated incident, not a mass shooting. The suspect has been arrested, and there is no ongoing threat

"Violence has no place in our commonwealth or country. Let's please pray for the families affected and for our KSU students. Let's also pray for a world where these things don't happen. Thank you to our brave law enforcement who acted quickly to protect our people."
