Does money really answer all things?

Does money really answer all things? King Solomon says it does (Eccl 10:19), but does it mean ALL things? Having money is definitely a plus compared to having none, but is Solomon endorsing the idea that all issues of life are solved by money?

I will say this: when you don't have money, you think money is the answer to all things. At least, all the things you're needing at the time like paying the electric bill or putting gas in your car. However, money cannot solve all the issues in life. It cannot feel the empty spaces in your heart. You can't call and talk to money when you need a friend. It will never call you just to say "I love you and hope you're doing good".

Family and friends do those things. Only friends and family are capable of filling your heart with the joy that comes by them calling you just to say, "I care. I understand. I'm praying for you".

Experts continue to tell us people are lonelier since Covid, but the fact, as far as I can see, is that people have always been lonely. We have always needed community. We've always needed each other. In fact, when God made Adam, he said, "It is not good that man should be alone" so he created a partner for him. Someone who would be helpful to him. The Bible calls Eve a helpmate. Our purpose, from that perspective, is to be a helper to each other. An encourager. An observer that actually puts legs on their prayers.

Money is a good thing and we all must have it, but Bible commentator, Matthew Henry, said, "It answers nothing for the soul." Money is the vehicle by which we eat and clothe ourself, our family and do mission work. It provides entertainment and all the other "niceties of life". It answers all things in that respect, but Henry goes on to say, "It will not procure the pardon of sin, the favor of God, the peace of conscience". The Bible says, "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things (talking about food and shelter), shall be added unto us".

What a comfort it is to know that there is someone watching over us; protecting and comforting us in our times of need whether we have a bank full of money or just a little change in our pocket. There are a lot of hard-working people in this world. For some, their money is like bags with holes in it. No matter how much they work, they can't get ahead. There are others who work just as hard and their money accumulates.

Debt and overspending are the biggest culprits of empty bank accounts. Dave Ramsey said, "How to waste $5000 a year: Spend $13.70 a day on things you don't need".

That is kind of an eye-opener. It makes us more aware of spending habits; social habits and investing in things that lay up treasure in heaven. A daily package from Amazon placed at your front door will never make you happy, but a good dose of care from someone will.

We feel good when we look at our bank account and see a surplus. But do we have a surplus in treasures laid up in heaven? I am a big proponent of saving but lets never forget the most important savings is to lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven where moth or dust does not corrupt; and thieves can't break through and steal (Matt. 6:20). So, does money answer all things like Solomon said? It answers all necessities of living, but lacks the power to heal the soul.
