FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that three more lives have been lost on Saturday as a result of severe winter weather impacting the Commonwealth, underscoring the continued dangers posed by prolonged cold and snow.
In a statement, Gov. Beshear said two additional deaths were confirmed from the winter storm: a 73-year-old man in Ballard County and a 64-year-old man in Hart County. Moments later, the governor shared another update, confirming a fifteenth weather-related fatality.
"Kentucky, we continue to need your prayers, as our fatalities have now risen to 15 with the passing of a 66-year-old man in Daviess County," Beshear said. "Let's wrap our arms around these families during this difficult time. We'll get through this together."
Earlier in the week, the governor had reported that a 55-year-old man in Livingston County died due to weather-related causes, bringing the total at that time to 11 fatalities. The latest confirmations reflect a continued rise in the death toll as officials review and verify storm-related incidents across the state.
One week after the severe winter weather first hit, many Kentuckians are still dealing with lingering snow, ice, and extreme cold. Gov. Beshear said Team Kentucky has been working throughout the week to clear roadways, restore power, and provide assistance to residents in need.
State officials continue to urge residents to use caution, check on vulnerable neighbors, and stay informed as recovery efforts move forward. The governor asked Kentuckians to keep the affected families in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
