FRANKFORT, Ky., Nov. 17, 2022 - Residents in Carlisle, Franklin and Harrison counties who want to run in the special election for circuit court clerk in 2023 have until Tuesday, Nov. 29, to register for the circuit clerk exam. Hopefuls for the office must pass the Circuit Court Clerk Examination to be on the ballot.

The Administrative Office of the Courts will administer the exam Thursday, Dec. 1, in Frankfort.

Voters will elect a new circuit clerk for each of the three counties next year to fill the unexpired terms of circuit clerks who retired late this year. Appointees are currently filling the vacancies. The new circuit clerks will be elected to serve until the end of 2024, when the regular election for all 120 circuit court clerks will take place.

Examinees must score at least 70% to run for office. The exam covers general knowledge in reading, math and language, and specific knowledge about circuit court clerk operations and Judicial Branch policies.

The filing deadline to be on the ballot for the election of circuit court clerk is Jan. 6, 2023.
