FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) - Economic development news topped Gov. Andy Beshear's weekly press conference at the Capitol on Thursday, including 435 new jobs being created in Jefferson and Bullitt counties from an expansion by UPS Supply Chain Solutions.

The Louisville project includes a 1 million-square-foot facility, with the company investing more than $155 million and creating 315 jobs. UPS also will construct a 1 million-square-foot facility in Bullitt County with a $178 million-plus investment, creating another 120 positions. All these jobs will pay more than $43 per hour.

The exact location of both projects is yet to be determined, but they have already been included in the company's capital plans.

The Governor said UPS is already one of the largest employers in the state. "In Kentucky, UPS contributes 62,000 direct and indirect jobs, with $2.5 billion in annual payroll. UPS has helped a lot of Kentuckians know the dignity of work, who can look across their kitchen table and know that they can leave their families that they have."

He noted, "This enhances Kentucky's reputation as a national leader in distribution and logistics, an industry that has announced more than 7,000 jobs behind $2 billion worth of investment since I took office."

Beshear also announced new jobs coming to The Bremen community in Muhlenberg County, which was hit hard by the tornado outbreak last December.

"The Double D Group in Muhlenberg County is investing $41.5 million and creating 200 new jobs," he reported. "We'll have more on this in the coming days, but it's real special after what we went through, nearly a year ago. We've been able to not just rebuild homes, but give people hope in these communities through new employment and new opportunities."

Other economic development news included Encompass Health Corp. and Baptist Health creating 42 well-paying jobs with a new rehab facility, and a Breckenridge County groundbreaking for the Atlas Machine and Supply Field Machining headquarters in Hardinsburg, with 78 new jobs.
