Note: It is important to note that these numbers and statistical data are for activity only involving the Graves County Sheriff's Office and would not reflect on activity numbers for other law enforcement agencies within the same jurisdictional boundaries of Graves County.
We also feel that it is important to establish benchmarks so that crime trends and other data can be utilized for future strategic planning for the agency.
JON HAYDEN GRAVES COUNTY SHERIFF Comments:"We are overall pleased with the Part 1 (most serious crime) numbers as most of the categories would indicate crime rate is in a downward trend in Graves County. The biggest decline appears to be in the burglary category, with declining numbers in rape, but with felony thefts remaining steady. An overall drop of 7%.
In the Part 2 (less serious) category, an overall drop in crime by 10%. Declining numbers in misdemeanor assaults, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, sex offenses, and drug offenses, all contributed collectively to the decrease.
It is important to note that small percentage changes in these numbers are favorable, but it may not necessarily mean there being a major shift in local crime trends.
*Arrest Warrants: The number of arrest warrants saw a significant increase of 30% being served. This increase can be attributed to many court cases being virtual last year dur to our judicial center not opening until October 2022. It would appear that many court defendants failed to appear as ordered virtually, leading to an excessive number of bench warrants being issued for their arrest.", Sheriff Jon Hayden
