Inspection finds bridge substructure issues

PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2023) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and the Ballard County Road Department have closed a bridge on Fraser Road in Ballard County.

Fraser Road (CR 1116) is closed at mile point 1.238 after an inspection found issues with the substructure of the Buckler Creek Branch Bridge.

KYTC Division of Bridge Maintenance engineers noted, "After review of the condition and analysis or changes in the weight carrying capacity of the subject structure by the bridge preservation analysis staff, this office has determined that the posting level for the following bridge should be as follows: (004C00017N) Close to all vehicles due to the condition of the substructure."

The bridge had previously been posted with a 9-ton load limit.

Road Closed signage and barricades were placed at each end of the bridge. The bridge will remain closed until further notice.

KYTC District 1 engineers will assist the Ballard County Road Department with a detailed analysis of the bridge structure to determine if the bridge can be repaired or needs to be replaced.
