MURRAY, Ky. (KT) -- Long-time Kentucky Baptist pastor Jack Studie died April 4 at age 76, but it's a photo from his graveside service that is remarkably different than the norm.

Studie's funeral was Monday, April 8 -- and he was laid to rest during the moment of totality during a solar eclipse. His daughter gave permission for the funeral home to share the photo, saying she believed it was divine orchestration that allowed totality to occur at the time of his graveside service, which was at Potageville Cemetery in Missouri.

Studie pastored Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Wickliffe from 1983-91; Sharon Baptist Church in Mayfield from 1991-2000, Pembroke Baptist Church in Christian County from 2000-2010 and Hamlet Baptist Church in Benton from 2011-2018. He also served as interim pastor at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cadiz.

He held various positions in the Graves County Baptist Association in the 1990s and was assistant moderator in the Blood River Baptist Association from 2011-2013.

He served two three-year terms on the Kentucky Baptist Convention Mission Board.

His obituary noted that he and his late wife, Judy, "embed the spirit of service, traveling the world to spread love and support through their ministry. His influence was not confined within the walls of the church ...he extended his impact far into his community, always eager to help others on their paths."
