On March 9, 2023 at approximately 11:40 AM, the Graves County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a two vehicle, injury collision on KY 80 East near KY 1124. The investigation into the collision revealed that David Garrard, 69 of Hickory, was westbound on KY 80 East operating a 2017 Ford four-door. At the same time, Patrick Kough, 46 of Murray, was also westbound on KY 80 East operating a 2007 Chevrolet truck pulling a combine grain header on a trailer behind him. Garrard's vehicle approachedKough's vehicle from the rear and impacted with the combine header he was pulling. This caused Garrard's vehicle to underride the trailer and combine header before coming to rest. Garrard was trapped in his vehicle and had to be removed by mechanical means by the Mayfield Fire Department. Garrard was transported by Mayfield / Graves County EMS to Mercy Health Paducah for treatment of incapacitating injuries. Kough, and a passenger in his vehicle, Joe Ferguson, 41 of Two Vehicle Injury CollisionMurray, were not injured in the collision.
Deputy Sheriff Zac Smith investigated this collision. He was assisted by Detective Jamie Clark, Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince and KSP Trooper Austin Ramage. Other agencies assisting included Mayfield / Graves County EMS, the Mayfield Fire Department and the Mayfield / Graves County Fire and Rescue Squad.
The scene was cleared at approximately 1:09 PM.
